The story behind Meadow View Beeswax Wraps
Here at Nutley’s Kitchen Gardens, we are very excited to be working alongside a local Sussex business - Meadow View Beeswax Wraps!
Meadow View Beeswax Wraps was founded 3 years ago by friends, Susie and Chloe. Chloe’s nephew, who was 7 at the time, suffered from hay fever and eczema. After reading an article about the benefits of eating local honey, the two of them booked themselves on courses about how to look after and raise bees. Feeling inspired and excited, they went ahead and learnt how to build their very own hives for their gardens!
They both found that eating local honey has lots of different health benefits. Did you know that honey can improve your cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure which reduces the chance of heart disease? Eating local honey can also massively improve symptoms of hay fever! Honey is rich in anti-toxins reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer. It can also act as a natural and safe cough suppressant.
As well as making honey, which is exclusively for their friends and family, the idea to make beeswax wraps started to evolve at a dinner party. The duo ended up using the wax from Chloe's hive to make a small batch of wraps so each guest had one to take away their food in. After its success and their love for the product, Meadow View Beeswax Wraps was born!
The great thing about these wraps, and an element that we love here at Nutley’s, is that all of the fabrics used are upcycled - from clothing, sheets and offcuts of material. They are always cotton, not only to be eco-friendly but also because it's a very effective fabric to use with the wax. As a result of this, each of the packs vary slightly in design, as different parts of the upcycled material is used – but one thing is for sure, they are all beautiful!
If that isn’t enough to convince you to find out for yourselves how wonderful these are, the girls at Meadowview also stay clear of jojoba oil, an element that’s widely used amongst other wraps, as it cannot be sustainably sourced.
We really do love these wraps here at Nutley’s, they are made using 100% natural beeswax, plastic free, antibacterial, reusable and organic – what more could you want? They are a great alternative for cling film and tin foil, and keep food fresh in fridge or can be used for packed lunches. Perfect for wrapping your homegrown fruits and vegetables to keep them fresher for longer, as well as items like sandwiches, cheeses or leftovers.
Simply use your hands to mold the beeswax wraps around your food or over bowls and dishes. To clean, simply wipe over with cold water after use – it really couldn’t be easier!
