A natural, peat-free, bracken based compost to help improve the quality and stamina of your plants. High in potash, it is also excellent as a weed-suppressing and nutrient-enriching mulch. Sustainably produced in the Lake District National Park, Lakeland Gold compost blends bracken harvested from the fells with good old-fashioned farmyard manure. Composted and allowed to cure over time, the humus rich compost will nourish gardens, vegetable plots and allotments for better growing results and higher productivity. Especially good on clay soils, too.
Increasing the organic matter in your soil will:
- Improve drainage
- Provide a feast for earthworms
- Improve moisture retention
- Help balance the PH level
- Increase soil temperature in winter, and lower it in summer
- Help develop a fertile, living soil
The Lakeland peat-free compost range supports progress towards DEFRA's target of total withdrawal of peat use by amateur gardeners by 2020. Once cut, peatland can never be replenished in our lifetimes and these important natural habitats are lost to us and to the dependent flora and fauna. Alternatives to peat are the future of gardening and horticulture.
Each bag holds 40 litres of compost.
