Many roosting areas previously occupied by bats have been destroyed in recent years, heightening the ever increasing need to provide new habitats for bats to occupy. This bat box has two chambers and a high capacity roost for a variety of different species to rest comfortably. Secure to a tree in an area of woodland or garden or even onto a house wall.
Made from solid, high quality FSC certified timber, this bat box will last for year on year. With excellent insulation, the narrow entrance slot and strong timber help to discourage predators. The swing panel allows for easy cleaning if required, though this should only be done by a licensed bat worker.
Secure between 2.5m - 5m above ground, on a building or mature tree, using the pre-drilled back plate hanger. If the box is situated on an existing feeding or flight route, you are more likely to get an occupation.
Nutley's tip: face north, south-west or south-east, so that the box receives limited sunlight.
Please note: Bats are a schedule 1 protected species under the Wildlife & Countryside Act. It is illegal for any member of the public to disturb a roost, handle or kill any bat. Bat boxes, therefore, may only be inspected by a licensed bat worker. However, you can monitor your bat box without disturbance, look for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box as a clue to occupation or observe from a distance at dusk to see if bats are exiting the box to hunt.
Measures: 32 x 15.8 x 16cm.
